8 Common Projector Problems and How to Fix Them
No matter how good or expensive your projector is, you might encounter some projector problems along the way.
Digital projectors have become a vital tool not only in offices and businesses but even in homes and parties.
Today a projector’s use goes beyond functional.
You can enjoy a home theater, step up your holiday decors, or set the mood for special events with a projector.
Are you looking into buying a projector? Or maybe you’re new to projectors.
There are many fun things you can do with a projector. But as with any device, sometimes you may encounter a few issues.
Don’t worry, most of these problems are just minor and can easily be remedied.
Here are some common projector problems and what you can do to fix them.
1 – Spots or Dots on the Screen
When you see purple (or magenta) dots on the projected images, this means there are dust and dirt particles on the projector’s green panel.
Clean your projector regularly and you can avoid this problem.
2 – Projector Not Turning Off
Are you pressing the power off button but it’s still not turning off? It’s most likely due to a problem with the lamp assembly.
Try adjusting the lamp assembly. Review the manual to be sure you’re doing it right.
After trying this and the problem is still there, it’s time to ask help from experts. Contact your technical support.
3 – The Images Look Faded
If the projected images are not as bright as they should be, check first if it’s just because of ambient light.
If not, the lamp might need to be replaced.
4 – Images Don’t Display Fully
Are the bottom or top of the images cut off?
Maybe it’s just the projector not angled correctly. Adjust the projector until the images are displaying fully on the screen.
If this doesn’t work, maybe the problem is with the computer or laptop.
You can fix this by adjusting the computer’s resolution to the projector’s resolution so they match.
5 – Colors at the Edge of the Images
If the projected images have color around their edges, it could mean a problem with the prism.
This is a costly damage. The price of replacing the prism can be as much as buying a new projector.
6 – Projector Shutting Off on Its Own
If the projector turns on for a minute or two then suddenly shuts down, it might be due to dust and dirt. Clean the fans and filters.
If you clean your projector regularly, maybe the problem is because you used a general lamp instead of a genuine OEM projector lamp.
Replace it with a genuine OEM lamp and see if this solves the problem.
7 – The Projector is Overheating
There are several factors that cause projectors to overheat.
It may be because of dust and dirt that have accumulated on the projector over time.
Is the fan still working? Maybe it needs to be replaced.
Or, the heat may be caused by the projector’s current location. Move it to a cooler place.
8 – Remote Control Not Working
This can be caused by several factors.
Maybe the batteries ran out and need to be replaced. Or you could be too far away from the projector.
Also, if you’re using fluorescent lights while doing the presentation, infrared remote control functions are disabled.
